Identifying the communities who will benefit of SPOT

We launched the S.P.O.T. project in Philippines because it is a country where Caroline and James have already been (in February 2014). They realized there was a need, and found the right people to distribute climbing material with Ina Florès and Miel Pahati, from ClimbPhilippines.com.

That was the start of S.P.O.T. and more precisely…

#SPOTphilippines !

Collecting funds and material

Caroline and James returned to the Philippines in February 2015 with 150 kgs of material: 250 bolts, 4 crash pads, 15 pairs of climbing shoes, 3 dynamic ropes, 3 statics, a set of quick draws, a second drill.

In addition we collected a further 20 pairs of climbing shoes, 15 harnesses, 15 belay devices, and 2 other crash pads that wait back in France to be sent to Philippines, along with about 2,000 euros collected from the sales of S.P.O.T. tee-shirts.

Bolting and climbing

We bolted around 20 routes from 6a to very hard projects, and organized a small rope work and safety lesson where we explained a few technics to abseil, bolt…

We spent evenings chatting in front of a fire about training, bolting, and getting ideas to keep on going with S.P.O.T. but more than that we got to know an incredible group of people, who’s motivation for climbing, despite so many obstacles, shows no bounds!

Producing articles and videos

Francisco has prepared a film about #SPOTphilippines.  His photos from the trip will also soon be published around Europe, along with our articles about the trip.  Whilst waiting for that, here you can watch the teaser…
